Dear Parents and Carer's ,
I hope you and your children have enjoyed your half term holiday.
Your children worked incredibly hard to practise for their class assembly and performed with great confidence when sharing the assembly with you on Friday 10th February 2017.
Over the past few weeks in class your children have been working hard on using what they have learnt in their phonic lessons to help them to develop their spelling and letter formation. Please continue to work with your child to practise correct letter formation at home.
In computing lessons we have been recording ourselves acting out the story of Were Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. Miss Parmley recorded us acting out the story and we then watched it back and spoke about things that we could do better next time. We are looking forward to acting out the story outside and making improvements in our computing lesson this week.
In science we learnt about what is Ice and explored different ways that we could make it melt and slow down the melting process. We enjoyed using the magnifying glasses to explore the ice and the how the ice changes as it melts.
In RE lessons we have been exploring and learning about what it means to celebrate. We spoke about different celebrations we have attended , different artefacts we might find at a church celebration and a celebration outside of church. We also learnt about the story when Jesus was bought to the temple by Mary and Joseph and presented to Anna and Simeon. We enjoyed role-playing the story.
In maths we have been learning all about 2D shapes and describing their properties. We have been developing our addition skills and making repeating patterns using sounds and noises. We especially enjoyed making patterns with sounds and shared these with out peers in class.
Understanding of the World
This half term we have enjoyed learning about and celebrating Chinese New Year. The children thoroughly enjoyed tasting some Chinese food , rice , prawn crackers , noodles and some fruit jelly. The children enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year Animal Race story and recreated it themselves during their learning through play. A big thank you to the children who bought in resources linked to this theme.
On Wednesday the 8th February 2017 , we enjoyed taking part in French day. We attended a whole school assembly and learnt some basic french phrases. In class we enjoyed taking part in a treasure hunt in the Reception garden and had to find different french themed objects. We also decorated a biscuit with the french flag , using writing icing. Miss Parmley read out some animal names in French and we had to guess what we thought the animal was in English. We found this fun !
We look forward to a busy half term coming up and our theme for this week is Emergency Services and we are very lucky as we have a fire engine and fire fighters coming to visit on Wednesday morning and a police car and police officers coming on friday morning.
Thank you for your continued support
