My Senses

Over the past few weeks we have been really enjoying learning all about our five senses, and the things that we can do with them. We enjoyed talking about how we can use our senses on the way to school and also made our own senses book.

We enjoyed using our smelling sense . to smell different scents. We then had to describe what we thought we had smelt , which proved to be an interesting experience for some of the children.

We also enjoyed using the touch station to feel different objects inside rubber gloves, We felt banana , baked beans , flour and sugar.

We have also enjoyed using paint mixed with sand to create a textured picture and described how it felt once our painting had dried.

On Tuesday 18th October , we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Guide Dog Association. Meg the guide dog , came to visit our class with her owner , Eddie who is blind and Frances who is Eddie's husband. We learnt about lots of different ways that Meg helps Eddie , and found it very interesting to learn that Meg knows what time to wake up Eddie , and she does this by barking.

We are continuing to learn about Baptism in our RE lessons for the first few weeks after half term. If you have a photograph of your child's Baptism  at home please could you send it into school.

Our topic after half term is celebrations and festivals and for the first week back we shall be learning about the festival Diwali and learning about Bonfire  night.

I hope you and your children enjoy a well rested break over the half term holidays.

Kind Regards

Let's Get Busy

Welcome back to the Reception class blog and the next update to fill you in on what has been happening in Reception !

We have all worked hard to settle into the routine of school life and , as a part of this we have been working hard in our phonics , to form our letters and to also develop our segmenting and blending skills. Please work with your child to help them to recognise the sounds letters make and also to be able to read the words that they have had sent home ,  without having to segment each individual sound ( Quickfire).

Last week we worked hard , learning how to make patterns and by the end of the week we had become expert pattern makers !

During our Literacy lessons last week , the children thoroughly enjoyed talking about the right things that we should be doing with our hands and feet. We did also talk about the things we shouldn't do with our hands and feet , and the children had some good suggestions.

This week our book of the week has been Handa's Surprise. We have enjoyed taking part in lots of activities linked around this theme. We thought of different fruits we could put inside Handa's basket , tasted the different fruits.  In art we also used  chalks to draw the different fruits in the story.

We are looking forward next week , where we shall be thinking about our five senses and what we can do with them.

Thank you for your continued support with help your children to learn their sounds and new words.
