Summer 1 week 7

We have had a busy few weeks in Reception, learning about the Growth and Change of animals. Last week we looked at The Very Hungry Caterpillar with a focus on Healthy Eating.  The children enjoyed ending the week by making a healthy fruit salad.

In Mathematics, we looked at different patterns in the environment and patterns with numbers. This week we have looked  2d and 3d shapes and their properties.

This week we have been looking at Road Safety. On Tuesday, we had a very enjoyable and informative workshop on staying safe when crossing the road. They started with a talk remembering the "Stop, look, listen song" they had learnt. All the children then had a turn at crossing a pretend road which had been set up in the hall. It was lovely to see how they all remembered to stop, look and listen and hold the adult's hand. Afterwards, the road was set up outside and all the children had a turn at being a policeman, lollipop person, pedestrian or driver of a bike or scooter.  Thank you to all the parents that attended and for your support.

Other activities the children have engaged in  have been The Vets Role Play, Ribbon weaving, Exploring mud kitchen, Music time and making a Spiders web.

For next half term we will be celebrating the Queen 90th birthday, looking at Buildings, people who help us and Under the sea creatures. We will also be preparing the children for Year One.

Wishing you a happy and safe break.

Summer 1 week 5

Another busy week in Reception Class, the weeks are flying by.

We have continued our topic on farm animals.  The children started the week by talking about their visit to the farm and writing a recount of events.  In Literacy, we have been encouraging the children to use connective words like first, next and finally to help structure their writing and make it more varied. Next week in Literacy, we will be looking at the different habitats of animals, starting with mini beasts.  Our story for the week is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and we will be focusing on Healthy Eating."

The children have enjoyed visiting and observing the newly hatched chicks in Year 2.  Each class had the opportunity to name a chick, the most popular choice in Reception class was "Fluffy."

Next week in mathematics we will be looking at patterns, focusing on symmetry.

This week in RE  we have concluded our topic on 'Good News' and next week we will be starting our new topic 'Friends.'

Enjoy your weekend.
