Welcome back

Happy New Year to everybody. A big welcome back to the children. I hope they enjoyed their Christmas. They definitely came back very excited and keen to talk about their holidays.

At the beginning of this term we introduced our new RE topic 'Celebrating'.  The children have enjoyed talking about different celebrations and how we like to celebrate.  Please could you send in a picture of a family or child taking part in a celebration e.g wedding, party, christening etc. to go in your child's learning journal,  This week we started to look at the Church and the part it plays in celebrations and some of the artefacts of the church.  We also all made red hand prints as part of our school's Holy Door into the hall in recognition  of the 'Holy Year of Mercy.'

Our Topic for the start of this term is Books - Stories and Rhymes.  We hope to look at some of the children s favourite stories and  traditional tales. This week the children have shown some retelling of the story and excellent role play of Little Red Riding Hood and next week we will be visiting the Three Little Pigs and making their houses.

In Mathematics we have been learning about estimating, through various activities.  We have also been using the number line to explore 'one  more' and 'one less' and 'two more' and 'two less' and next week we will be looking at sequencing and looking at 'time.' Below are some more activities we have been involved in this week.

All children now have a reading book to take home and we appreciate you taking time to hear your child read each night and update their reading record.  This plays an important part in increasing your child's reading fluency and ability. However it is important that their reading book and reading record are in their school bag every day, so that it can be regularly updated at school.

Hope you have a good week.
