Spring term week 4

This week in Reception, the children have engaged in several activities on the theme of the 'Three Little Pigs'. We started the week by going into the woods to look for some sticks to build some houses.  Although we heard the 'big bad wolf' he was nowhere to be seen but we did find grandma's teeth! This activity promoted great enthusiasm and excitement and the children were able to imagine different scenarios in the woods. Next week we will be introducing international stories and looking at houses and homes in other countries.

Throughout the week the children used different materials to build their houses.  We finished the week with a science experiment looking at different properties of the materials used.  The children were then split into groups, and given a material to work with (blocks, cardboard, paper, sticks and lego).  Their challenge was to build a collaborative house together, which after lots of problem solving and negotiation produced some lovely results.

In mathematics this week we have been learning the days of the week and sequencing time.  The children have taken part in several games and timing activities.  Next week we will be looking at clocks and some basic times e.g. o'clock and half past.

We have continued to look at Celebrations in our RE topic.  All the children have also had an opportunity to complete the 'Three Little Pigs' sequencing programme on the computers. We finished the week with 'circle time' with 'Jigsaw Genie' when we talked about 'not giving up' and trying our best.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
